Who's Spinning What

Some music industry types have quixotic tastes rap label execs who dig Johnny Cash, for example, or headbangers whose iPods are full of Enya. But Kid Kelly, director of pop programming and senior director of music programming for Sirius satellite radio, is a pop animal 24/ 7.

Noteworthy

-- The Wisconsin Area Music Industry hasn't announced a date or venue for its 26th annual celebration of the state's many musical scenes, but the group has unveiled its list of nominees for this year's awards. Group/artist of the year contenders include Bascom Hill, Boxkar, The Profits, Sunspot and Twang Dragons. Bascom Hill and Sunspot also are in competition to take home CD/recording of the year honors, along with the Paul Spencer Band, Michael Angelo Batio and the Cool Waters Band.

Putting On the Glitz Clubs Again Putting On the Glitz; Female Impersonators Are Seeing Ch-Ch-Changes in the Works

After hours of trying on wigs, painting on pouts and squeezing silicone breast pads into dazzling dresses, Nova D'Vine, Jackie Roberts, Christina Chase and Shannon were ready to strut their stuff. The occasion: the weekly drag show at La Cage, a gay bar in Walker's Point. But first, the female impersonators had to deal with what's become a regular problem at La Cage and other gay clubs in the area: After all the work they put into getting ready, some people still weren't paying attention.

Director Learns How to Work with Hopkins

Since Anthony Hopkins has spent a lifetime pretending to be other people, it should have been no surprise, during an interview last year, that he was not the man I expected him to be. Grudgingly cooperative and borderline brusque, he was a hare in tortoise's clothing, not unlike Burt Munro, the cagey sexagenarian motorcycle racer he plays in the Roger Donaldson film "The World's Fastest Indian."

Movies; World's Fastest' Less Than Full Throttle; Hopkins; a Worthy Driver, but Stereotypes Abound

The title of the new film "The World's Fastest Indian" does not refer to a person. It refers to the 1920 Indian Twin Scout motorcycle that New Zealander Burt Munro used to set a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats, the racing mecca in Utah, in the late 1960s, when he was approaching age 70 and in ill health.

Review; Too Much Unexplored in Freedomland'

She's clearly hiding something, and he's obviously suspicious of her. We can tell this much from the opening scenes of "Freedomland." But anyone who hopes that something additional will be revealed or believes that more is going on than meets the eye will be disappointed. "Freedomland" wears its significance on its sleeve. If it were a boat, it would capsize under the weight of its self-importance. It states the obvious and then goes about its business believing this transparency sufficient, ...

Celebrity Noise; Lies, Damn Lies and Bruce Willis' Take On the World

Life isn't always what it seems, but at least we can count on Bruce Willis to be five steps behind whatever it is. Willis can drive you absolutely batty. Just when you're thinking, hey, maybe this guy really has something going on, maybe he really can act ("Pulp Fiction," "Twelve Monkeys," "The Sixth Sense"), despite the give-'em-hell, gimme-a-bigger-gun John McClane cloak he usually wears, he proves again that actors can come to believe all the bunk they're hired to dish out in the movies.
