The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Reaction; How Others Saw Zeidler
"He had impeccable integrity. He was just a giant in local government and was respected all over the country. He didn't have the good looks and the charm, but he didn't need it - his depth, his sincerity, his intellectual ability, his devotion to all the good things. He was a peace person. He had it all." Vel Phillips,
Frank Zeidler was Milwaukee's third Socialist mayor and the last Socialist to run a large American city. After finishing high school, Zeidler had begun reading the works of socialist writers such as Norman Thomas, Kirby Page, Devere Allen and Harry Laidler at a small neighborhood library on N. 35th St. It was at about that time that he also started going to meetings of the Socialist Party in his ward.
