In the previous election, Democrats kept the governor's mansion, took a majority in the state Senate and narrowed the margin in the Assembly. Yes, there were a number of factors, including plummeting GOP fortunes generally because of the Iraq war. But weariness of partisan gridlock in both state chambers and blind opposition to Democratic initiatives were likely a contributing factor.

Milwaukee Public Museum; a Necessary Bailout; Milwaukee County Supervisors Have Given This Community Treasure and the People Who Love It the Ultimate Admission Pass. It Had to Be Done.

The Milwaukee Public Museum and the residents who love to take out-of-town visitors there caught a big break last week when the Milwaukee County Board approved a $39 million plan to keep the museum out of bankruptcy. Officially, it's being called a recovery plan, but it's really more of a communitywide rescue. Some said it was a bailout and not the first. They're right; it was a bailout, but for the common good.
