Summerfest

Eleven days. Thirteen stages.

Summerfest Medley; Lineup Should Make Everyone Feel Welcome

Unlike some of its more venerable cousins, Summerfest has always been a potluck party. Newport has its jazz and folk festivals. The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival celebrates that great city's cultural legacy. But Summerfest plays no musical favorites. Jazzers, rockers, folkies, rappers, popsters, outlanders and good ol' boys are all welcome.

Two pounds lost this week, for a total of six in four weeks. A month into this, some patterns have changed and some haven't.

Television; Survey Says: Bland; Celebrities Get Along Famously, to the Detriment of 'Family Feud'

"Password" with celebrities is a pretty good idea. An all-star "Apprentice" -- leaving aside the question of whether newspaper gossips and professional reality show contestants rise to the level of stars -- is a decent concept for a series, too. But "Celebrity Family Feud" -- in theory, at least -- is genius. Who doesn't like a star-studded throwdown, whether it's The Donald vs. The Rosie, Dr. Drew vs. Tom Cruise, or Kim Cattrall vs. Everybody Else in the TV Show and/or The Movie?

Summerfest; Shopping; New Designs to Smile About

They're hoping you take this year's slogan literally at Maier Festival Park and "Get Your Summerfest On" -- on your chest; on your head and over your shoulder, for starters. To make that happen, the Summerfest shops will offer not just T- shirts with this year's theme on them, but also shirts with the ubiquitous smiley face, vintage heather gray T-shirts with "Summerfest" across the front, chocolate-brown hats stitched with a felt Summerfest smile on the front ($18) and the ever-popular child...

Summerfest; From Spotlight to Side Stages, Stars Take On the Night

MARCUS AMPHITHEATER STEVIE WONDER, 7 p.m. Thursday: Is there a more enduring, more seminal singer-songwriter in R&B history? Wonder had his first No. 1 hit shortly after turning 13 and last year won his 25th Grammy. A sampling of just the No. 1 hits includes "Fingertips," "Superstition," "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," "You Haven't Done Nothin'," "I Wish," "Sir Duke," "Ebony and Ivory" and "Part-Time Lover."

Summerfest; Food; 3 Restaurants Added to the Mix

Good reviews and a thumbs-up from local diners? Awesome. Getting the chance to serve revelers at Summerfest? Priceless.

R.S.V.P.; Night at Casino Comes Up All Aces

In 1990 the Menomonee River Valley was pretty much a wasteland of old or abandoned factories. But in less than a generation, the valley has been reborn as a vibrant entertainment mecca. That revival was celebrated June 11 at the preview party for the new $240 million addition to the Potawatomi Bingo Casino. Forest County Potawatomi Tribal Chair Philip Shopodock noted that the addition that opened to the public this past week was the "culmination of the dream we've had since 1990. It was on ou...
