Manufacturers need to train employees to be ready for changed business conditions, rather than waiting until employee shortages become acute.

That was one message Monday from the 2006 Manufacturing Matters conference held at the Midwest Airlines Center. The conference, which attracted about 750 people and 250 companies, was sponsored by Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership, a business organization that helps companies with productivity issues.
