After bulking up by acquiring smaller Wisconsin banks in recent years, Associated Banc-Corp is planning to add some muscle in its faster-growing markets elsewhere in 2007, the banking firm's chief executive says.

The Green Bay-based parent company of Associated Bank plans to open two branches in suburban Minneapolis in the new year and may build six to eight there in the next few years, said President and CEO Paul S. Beideman. The bank has 27 branches in Minnesota now.
