Summary


Baseball's tough-talking, give-me-your-best-shot union chief Don Fehr is a very savvy guy, but sometimes even the sharpest people need to have a load of bricks fall on their heads before they get it. Unless Fehr is playing games again, we think he's got a whopper of a headache these days.

After being repeatedly prodded by U.S. senators this week during a meeting of the Commerce Committee, Fehr now says it's possible that a tougher drug-testing policy could be approved by the end of the World Series this month. What that means, of course, is that after balking for months at Commissioner Bud Selig's proposal for baseball to bring the hammer down on steroid use once and for all, Fehr finally realizes he has no choice but to negotiate in good faith. It's about time.
