Broader Deficit Forecast for State Bureau's Estimate Exceeds Governor's

Summary


Madison -- A new report Monday said the state government's three- year budget deficit is slightly worse than the $6.5 billion estimated by Gov. Jim Doyle last week.

The Legislative Fiscal Bureau said the drop in tax collections over the three-year period will be $1.6 billion more than expected in January. That estimate is $100 million greater than the number the governor and Budget Director Dave Schmiedicke used last week.
