Brookfield; Save Flag Fight for Another Day

Summary


Last month, the Brookfield Common Council unanimously approved flying the POW-MIA flag at City Hall on a daily basis instead of only on the six days a year designated by the federal government. Tonight, the council will reconsider that move because Ald. Steve Ponto is having second thoughts thoughts that have won him the vilification of some veterans and veterans groups around the country.

Ponto does not deserve their disdain, but it probably would be best if he dropped the issue for now. At a time of war, civilians should be reminded of the cost of freedom exacted on their behalf, especially by those families who don't know the fate of their loved ones in uniform.
