Catholics Retool Vocations Efforts; Young Show More Interest in Priesthood

A rise of interest in the priesthood among teenage boys and young men is prompting the Milwaukee Archdiocese to enliven its vocations Web site and focus more energy on outreach to Catholic students in high schools and the upper grades of elementary schools.

That is to be evident Thursday, when virtually all 650 students in the fourth through eighth grades in Catholic schools in Kenosha are to gather in the auditorium at St. Joseph High School for a vocations rally. It will include personal witnessing by a priest, a religious sister and a religious brother, as well as a Bible knowledge competition based on Scriptures in which God calls someone to service, said Father James Lobacz, archdiocesan vocations director.
