Regina Bakala thought that by Wednesday, she would be flying back to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she believed she would face torture, even death. Instead, by today, she should be back in her Milwaukee home with her husband and two young children.

Bakala, the Congolese woman whose deportation case has rallied her church and many others in the Milwaukee area, will be allowed to stay in the United States for now because the Board of Immigration Appeals decided to reopen her asylum case.
