Ex-Cops Seek City Representation; Fired Officers File Claims for Counsel in Jude-Case Civil Suits

Summary


Several of the former Milwaukee police officers facing criminal charges in the beating of Frank Jude Jr. have filed claims against the city because the city attorney's office won't represent them in Jude's multimillion dollar civil lawsuit.

The city routinely represents officers sued by civilians over the use of excessive force. In fact, the city this year mounted a vigorous defense in an unrelated on-duty shooting case for Jon Bartlett, one of the fired officers charged with beating Jude. A federal jury in the shooting case, filed by the survivors of Larry Jenkins, found in Bartlett's favor.
