I'm often curious about the stories behind the athletes I spy at the start line of races. I wonder what inspired them, or brought them to compete in a particular discipline, whether skiing, biking or running.

This story came my way when a proud mother, Rose Fraser of Milwaukee, contacted me to talk up her son, Kyle, and his exploits as a triathlete. It offers a bit of insight, at least into one 28- year-old athlete.
