Madison -- Government intervention is needed to help solve the financial crisis, financial experts said Monday. But until the seriousness of the situation hits average Americans directly, it might be difficult to convince them it's truly necessary.

A general mistrust of Wall Street and the government has led to doubts about whether the problems really require a massive rescue, said Mark Ready, a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor of finance, investment and banking.
