Brookfield -- The Elmbrook School District's communications director has resigned amid district efforts to cut his position to part time and have its information technology administrator oversee communications.

Andy Smith said Monday that he planned to resign after passage of the $62.2 million referendum to upgrade the district's two high schools, and that he was not pushed out. Voters approved the referendum in April. Smith resigned Friday, one day after the district's Communications Committee proposed the restructuring.
