When a group of teenagers from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in New Berlin returned a few weeks ago from repairing houses of low-income residents in Neodesha, Kan., the youths thought the siding they installed and wheelchair ramps they built would last for years.

Instead, tremendous rainfall in Kansas flooded dozens of homes, displaced residents and threatened the clean water supply. According to the state's Adjutant General's Department, 121 homes in Neodesha, population 3,000, had severe damage.
