Madison Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Green dropped a Dane County lawsuit Friday, positioning himself to ask the state Supreme Court to quickly decide whether the Elections Board properly ordered the campaign to divest itself of $467,844.

Green campaign lawyer Don Millis said the Dane County suit was dismissed in an attempt to get the matter before the state Supreme Court as soon as possible, with the Nov. 7 election just more than five weeks away. The effect of the action was to wipe out, as a legal precedent, a Dane County judge's ruling that backed the Elections Board.
