Washington -- Of the four inaugurals I've covered, this one stands out in at least two ways. One is the massive attention, preparations, sense of anticipation, sense of history, sense of excitement and sense of nervousness about the human tide that's about to engulf the nation's capital.

The other is how politically cordial the handover has been between the outgoing Bush administration and the incoming Obama team. All transitions are supposed to be professional. But this one has been curiously good-natured when you consider that the new president made the old president his chief campaign target.
