Milwaukee Common Council President Willie Hines Jr. will seek to cap police overtime costs in the city's budget for 2008, he announced Tuesday.

"What I'd like to explore is how do we reverse overtime and fill the slots with officers," Hines said. "The catch, though, is while we do that, it's incumbent on the department to keep overtime down, still. We can't have a situation where we have more officers and more overtime."
