Detroit It's official. Major League Baseball has become so prosperous that management and players no longer have to fight over how to divide the proceeds.

In what will go down as a landmark negotiation, the sides reached a tentative agreement Sunday on a five-year collective bargaining agreement, nearly two months before the current contract expires on Dec. 19. It was the second consecutive agreement reached without a work stoppage after a 30-year period in which shutdowns were a constant threat to the game.
