I'm dating myself again, but I can remember when then-Waukesha County highway commissioner Rich Bolte brought the first "twittle" to a county road project about 20 years ago.

The TWLTL -- or two-way left-turn lane -- turned up along the center of Highway JJ on the northeastern edge of Waukesha back then. Some folks were skeptical, figuring that any time you've got cars heading in opposite directions in the same lane, you're headed for trouble.
