Bowing out of the coal-plant fight steered by his late father, Racine billionaire Sam Johnson, S.C. Johnson & Son Chairman Fisk Johnson said it's time for Wisconsin to become more open to less polluting ways to generate electricity.

In a letter published today in the Journal Sentinel and eight other newspapers across Wisconsin, Johnson said he is proud of the four-year campaign his company lodged against the Wisconsin Energy Corp. coal-fired plants now under construction in Oak Creek.

"We fought a valiant fight. We devoted countless hours and significant resources to the cause. Leading experts in ecology, energy generation and human health agreed with us," Johnson wrote.
