Mason Wells Inc., one of Wisconsin's largest investment firms, has lost a lawsuit to a consultant who claimed the firm unfairly blamed her for its problems in the venture capital business and shorted her $34,000 owed on her contract.

Mason Wells Biomedical Partners II LLC, an investment fund organized by Mason Wells, owes consultant Lynn Allen that amount, plus interest, her travel expenses and court costs, according to the ruling issued Friday by Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Christopher Foley.
