Raspberry Island - We romanticize lighthouses today almost as much as love itself, but of course that's easy when the beacons are vacation destinations, not home bleak home.

"I hate lighthouses," Mrs. Alexander McLean told a reporter in 1931, which would not have been a serious issue if she hadn't been married to the onetime keeper of the Raspberry Island Light. "They are so lonely. Going from one island to another . . . isn't much fun, especially when you have to go in a small boat and maybe get caught in a storm. We left Raspberry Island in 1916, and I was glad to see the last of it."
