Former Ald. Michael McGee Jr. was undone by a hubris that had him believing that his district was less a political subdivision in need of able representation than a personal fiefdom from which to exact tribute from select vulnerable constituents.

The evidence was overwhelming; the wiretap conversations chilling; the conviction by jury on extortion and bribery charges in federal court clearly a case of justice fulfilled. He still faces trial in state court on allegations of making threats, vote-buying and other charges.
