Mcgovern Urges Efforts to End Global Poverty; Former Senator Speaks to About 500 in Milwaukee

More than 30 years after his quixotic bid for the presidency fell short, George McGovern came to Milwaukee on Saturday and fired up a crowd of 500 gathered at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on the west side for a day of speeches and seminars on ending world poverty.

"It is appropriate to meet in a church because today we're talking about what is one of the clearly most deeply moral challenges of our time," said McGovern, the former Democratic senator from South Dakota who was defeated by President Nixon in 1972.
