Town of Merton Town officials Tuesday rejected a legal claim from a Milwaukee man and his family that seeks slightly more than $2.5 million in damages in connection with an alleged hate crime.

Mark Bratton, who is African-American, and his relatives filed the claim against the town as a result of the April 19 incident in which two North Lake firefighters are accused of confronting Bratton with a handgun and guard dog.
