The development of more urban housing would help reduce traffic and contribute to a decline in greenhouse gases, former Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist told a local audience Wednesday.

Apartments, condominiums and other housing within walking distance or a short bus ride from where people work could be a key factor in reducing global warming, said Norquist, president of the Chicago-based Congress for the New Urbanism.
