A Milwaukee police officer shot and killed a man on a busy Bay View street Tuesday morning after police say he refused officers' orders to drop a jacket he was carrying and pointed a gun toward them.

The man, 54, of Milwaukee, was shot once in the chest about 10:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of S. Kinnickinnic Ave., where police had found him based on a description of a suspect in an attempted robbery a few minutes earlier and a few blocks away, said police Inspector Edward Liebrecht.
