"Public health officials aren't sure why H1N1 flu vaccinations are lagging among African-Americans. They just know they have a potentially life-threatening problem on their hands if the disease becomes more prevalent or virulent. Officials fear black people erroneously believe the shots are dangerous or mistrust the medical establishment. But the decision to reject flu shots can be deadly . . . Local public service ads could also give the maligned vaccine a shot in the arm. With so many at risk, the extra efforts are worth a try."
