Green Bay When veteran Cletidus Hunt was released Saturday in the cut-down to 53, it marked yet another failure in the Green Bay Packers' recent attempts to piece together a dominant defensive line.

Like a homeowner intent on raising the value of his property, the Packers sunk millions of dollars into what might be the second-most important position on a football team, hoping the investment would provide the ultimate payoff. Instead of playing in Super Bowls, however, the Packers have been playoff pretenders and now, after a series of mis-hits, face the prospect of defending the line of scrimmage with a seven- or eight-man rotation of scrappers.
