Thompson isn't into bold statements or making Super Bowl predictions. Unlike his mentor, Ron Wolf, he appears to fret about saying something in the newspaper that might offend someone.

On Thursday, in a telephone interview with Journal Sentinel beat writer Bob McGinn, Thompson explained some of his off-season moves and why he thinks the Packers will remain a solid team.

Q. Do you think any team with Brett Favre warrants a realistic chance to reach the Super Bowl?

A. Personally, I don't talk about the Super Bowl too much. We all in the NFL have goals but I focus on the day-to-day things.
