City of Pewaukee - Homeowners in subdivisions with sprawling lawns and businesses in office parks with lush landscaping may be asked to pay higher water rates - plus be forced to conserve water - by municipal officials who say the city is now paying the price for encouraging developments with plenty of green space.

Ald. Roger Hathaway wants to change the city's water billing structure to charge a higher rate after a customer's quarterly usage surpasses 75,000 gallons. Now, customers are charged $2.25 per 1,000 gallons for the first 50,000, and $2.05 per 1,000 gallons for the next 250,000 gallons, Public Works Director Jeff Weigel said.
