Throughout the world, tiny babies breathe a little easier thanks to Lyle H. Hamilton, long a physiologist with the Medical College of Wisconsin.

"He was a pioneer in the development of new respirators, now used universally in neonatal intensive care units for babies with breathing problems when they're born," said Allen Cowley, chairman of the college's physiology department.
