Investigators probing the Falk Corp. explosion found propane gas trapped underground near the blast site Friday, a Fire Department officer said.

The small pocket of gas lay under asphalt between Falk's large liquid propane storage tanks and the Annex, the primary building destroyed in Wednesday morning's explosion, Fire Lt. Brian O'Connor said. Whether the gas was linked in some way to the explosion, which killed three workers and injured 44, was not known.
