Most government officials in Wisconsin get it: They understand that transparency and accountability in government are critical to democracy. They know they work for the citizens of their communities and that governments function best when citizens know what's going on and have easy access to public records and meetings.

But some officials still don't get it. A recent statewide audit by open records advocates found that three in 10 requests made under the state's open records law were not adequately fulfilled and nearly 10% were denied or ignored. Government officials where that happened need to wise up.
