New Home Construction Down 20% in Region; Houses Being Built Are Bigger, More Expensive

New housing construction has dropped by more than 20% in southeastern Wisconsin for the year through August, according to a report by MTD Marketing Services LLC.

The slump is in line with lowered expectations by home builders across the country. In mid-August, the National Association of Home Builders reported that its index of builders' perceptions of the market dropped to the lowest level since February 1991.
