Violent Crime Falls Nationally, Rises in City; Aggravated Assaults Push Rate Up; Nonfatal Shootings Down

Violent crime rose in Milwaukee by 13% in the first six months of 2007, led by a 23% spike in aggravated assaults, according to statistics newly released by the FBI.

Nationwide, the preliminary figures from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports indicate violent crime decreased 1.8% from January to June 2007 from the same period in 2006. The violent crime category includes murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
