Rough Winter May Mean Good Fall for Cranberries

The cold, snowy winter that exasperated travelers this year was a blessing to cranberry growers, the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association said Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture projects that the state will yield 3.85 million barrels of cranberries during the fall harvest, a 4% increase over the 3.71 million barrels last year. If the projections are correct and the weather continues to be favorable, the harvest will be the second largest in state history, and Wisconsin will be the top cranberry-producing state for the 14th consecutive year.
