Madison State health officials are encouraging senior citizens who participate in Wisconsin's prescription drug program to re- enroll for another year, even though a similar federal program will start in 2006.

By Jan. 1, the federal prescription drug plan for all seniors, known as Medicare Part D, will be competing with SeniorCare, which already provides affordable prescription drugs to about 87,000 Wisconsin low-income seniors.
