I spent $53 on summer clothes for my 5-year-old daughter the other day.

That money bought four pairs of shorts and four matching tops -- about $7 per item. Those rock-bottom sale prices at the GapKids outlet in Pleasant Prairie were a splurge. That's because Madeline and her 14-month-old brother, Justin, rarely get new clothes. Most of their wardrobes consist of hand-me-downs from their cousins and my friends' kids.
