Port Washington -- A Mequon man who wounded his mother with a shotgun in 1997 because he thought she was a demon was released Thursday from supervision by the state Department of Corrections because there's been no evidence during the past 10 years that the brain disorder that caused his hallucinations exists any longer.

Matthew E. Binder, now 48, was charged with shooting his mother, Colleen Binder, in the back on Jan. 20, 1997, with a 20-gauge shotgun outside his Mequon home as she used her car to block the driveway in the hope she could stop him from leaving.
