Madison - A special legislative committee on how state open meetings and records laws apply to quasi-governmental bodies said Wednesday it would consider recommending to lawmakers that certain economic development corporations be exempted from the laws.

Committee members directed Legislative Council attorneys to draft legislation that would exempt economic development corporations from open records and meetings laws if less than 50% of their funding comes from public sources, and if fewer than half of the corporation members are public officials.
