Wisconsin typically sells 1.4 million fishing licenses, and the number of anglers swells significantly when children are included (those under 16 aren't required to buy a license), as well as military personnel on active duty or furlough (who also fish free).

A recent Department of Natural Resources survey of recreational activities revealed that 41% of Wisconsin residents over age 16 fished. And it's not only popular with residents: Wisconsin trails only Florida in the number of days non-resident anglers spend fishing here.
