Tim Atherden and Courtney Johnson-Atherden were secretly married for less than a month when, on Jan. 12, on a foggy road just south of Genoa City, their car collided with a truck. The two have remained in comas ever since.

Courtney, who is 26 and is a business analyst at U.S. Bank in Milwaukee, met Tim, who is 36, while studying abroad at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham, England. Tim, who is British, was a student there, studying to become a computer programmer. A trans-Atlantic romance followed, with Tim hopping back and forth across the pond. He was stateside when he proposed to her at a spot beside Lake Geneva in fall of 2004.
