A 25-year-old single mother of four did all she could to get Sidney Gray locked up. Too bad the authorities didn't work the case as hard as the woman who pointed the finger at Gray, saying he tried to break into her home.

If they had, Gray would have likely been in custody on July 22. Instead, police said, Gray on that day broke into yet another home and, in the process, gunned down Frank Moore II, a 38-year-old good Samaritan who was trying to stop the burglary.

Gray, who officials say has seven convictions on his record, is behind bars now. He's being held on $250,000 bail on charges of first-degree reckless homicide in the Moore killing. On Monday, he finally was charged with driving a stolen car, resisting arrest and attempting to burglarize the woman's home on July 16.
