I don't know about you, but I always feel disoriented -- slightly weirded out, even -- when an advertising slogan turns out to be absolutely true.

The USA cable channel has used the "Characters Welcome" tag for some time now. That simple phrase perfectly encapsulates the charming eccentricity of the leads of its best comedy-dramas: Tony Shalhoub's obsessive-compulsive gumshoe in "Monk," James Roday's and Dule Hill's fake psychics in "Psych" and Jeffrey Donovan's off- kilter agent in "Burn Notice."
