The Scourge of Graffiti

Summary


Carmen Elisa Poventud and her husband, Juan, were installing a new railing Monday morning at the house they own and carefully maintain at S. 10th and W. Washington streets, just across the street from Walker's Square. Yes, she said, she had heard about the graffiti incident at the Calatrava addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum and she, like the rest of the community, was appropriately sickened by it.

Like many people in this Milwaukee neighborhood, the Poventuds know about graffiti. Twice last year, Juan had to remove it from his overhead garage door, and just last week, the pavilion at Walker's Square was hit with gang graffiti, Carmen said.
