Today's Tmj4 Storm Team May Mixes Spring and Summer

Summary


During the past week, I have written several articles about weather sayings and weather lore. A couple of May proverbs are "A wet May makes a big load of hay" and "A cold May is kindly and fills the barn finely." While we all hope the month of May is more summer- like than spring-like, in Milwaukee it can be diverse.

For instance, while we are experiencing cooler air today and even a chance for morning frost away from Lake Michigan this morning, it has been much cooler in the past. On this date in 2002, the day was more reminiscent of early April than mid-May with a chilly high temperature of 44 degrees, the coldest maximum on record for this date in Milwaukee. It can get very warm, too: back in 1908 on May 17, the temperature reached a record high of 90 degrees in Dodgeville.
