Last week was cold, and we even had a few snow showers that amounted to less than a half an inch total. However, Vilas County in northern Wisconsin was dumped on with more than a foot of snow, and our neighbors across the lake in Michigan got 1 to 3 feet along the lakefront.

Lake-effect snow is common this time of year around the Great Lakes region, and it can create some significant snow totals from northern Wisconsin to Buffalo. While most of the state averages about 50 inches of snow for the winter, extreme northern Wisconsin can receive up to 160 inches due to Lake Superior.
